Eddie von Brentwood

Eddie von Brentnew face

Eddie von Brentwood is a classic looking 4 year old German Shepherd. He looks as if he was cared for before he was found hit at the side of the road. His leg was so badly broken that pieces of bone had cut through his leg; he had a large infected wound. He waited days at the shelter with nothing but pain medication hoping his owners would come looking for him. Of course they didn’t and we have Eddie now. He has had surgery; it took two orthopedic surgeons five hours to repair his leg. Everyone is very optimistic about his future; he should be completely fine once his cast comes off in 5 weeks. Eddie still needs daily bandage changes and some follow up care for 5 weeks. We would love help for his care and to pay the remainder of his very expensive surgery. We have had two dogs within a week who needed orthopedic surgery, we should have not taken them both on but then we look at those faces and they know what we are deciding. Eddie has an uncanny way of looking at you like he is trying so hard to understand. Look at that face and you know why we couldn’t say “no” even though we aren’t sure where the money will come from.
UPDATE 6/6/07
Eddie is recovering at the Animal Surgical and Emergency Center  He had another very long surgery yesterday, the pins and plate to repair his fractured leg didn’t hold, the most recent surgery has 5 pins which go through the bone but protrude externally, and as he heals they will start removing the pins. They had to remove bone from other areas to help do the repair .Eddie is a little discouraged, but enjoyed some chicken the volunteer brought him. His protein level is low, which is of some concern to the surgeons. He has been through so much, so many surgeries and then an E-Coli infection. Even with a big discount, Eddie has already brought our bill to over $5,000. We need your help. Eddie now also has a lot of post operative care, we really need your support. He is such a wonderful dog and seems to understand that everyone is trying to help him, not make life miserable for him which it is at this point.
UPDATE 6/15/07
Eddie finally said good-by to his good friends at Animal Surgical Emergency Center and was transferred to another hospital for follow up care. Eddie’s claim to fame is our most expensive dog to date, but just look at that face and we know we had to get him through all the surgeries and complications. We still need your help to pay his bills on our credit card. Eddie really needs a foster home; he can’t go up stairs yet and can’t play. He is a wonderful dog, calm and well behaved. The volunteers like to take him out for a fast food cheese burger, he is so polite and such a gentleman. He doesn’t want to have to leave the car and go back to the hospital. We have promised him that he will have a home again soon. Don’t forget to help us pay those scary bills, I’m sure you all know how expensive orthopedic surgery can be!
UPDATE 7/07/07
Eddie is back at Animal Surgical Emergency Center, he has another E-Coli infection in his bone. The surgeons are desperately trying to save his leg after three surgeries. Cultures have shown that another E-Coli infection is growing, one that is new and fierce which doesn’t respond to oral antibiotics. Eddie has to have injections of the drug, but his kidneys have to be closely watched because the drug can cause kidney failure. Eddie got the infection after being dragged along the road when he was hit by a car. He was left at a shelter for days untreated with the bone protruding through the skin. As soon as he was released to us, he got the quickest and best medical care. Even though the surgeons and staff at ASEC have been very kind, the cost is overwhelming for us. We would appreciate any help.
