Amigo is a beautiful black-and-red six-year-old German Shepherd from German lines. You can tell Amigo is a well-bred dog from his conformation, the way he moves and the tattoo he received from his breeder. Amigo was brought over from Germany by his former owner, who no doubt paid thousands of dollars for him. Not only is he beautiful, but he is bilingual. He knows commands in both English and German. It always breaks our hearts when we walk through a crowded shelter and see these beautiful mature dogs that have been turned in by their owners, not because of anything that they did, but because they are now just an inconvenience for their owner. Sometime we think it is really the best day of their lives because now they will have the chance to be part of a loving family. Amigo was a favorite at the shelter. He was even featured, as dog of the week, which is usually reserved for dogs that the shelter feels, are special in some way. When our volunteer was at the shelter, she couldn’t get his attention until one of the attendants came to take him out. When he saw the leash and realized he was going to get out of that small run he started jumping for joy. Once he was out he was very responsive to commands and we discovered that he loves to play ball. He sat very contently while he was being brushed. He met a small dog and some cats in the holding room and did not seem to be too interested. Amigo will make a great addition to some lucky family who can take a siesta in the warm CA sun together.
