Carter von Carpin

Carter von Carpin is a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd.  New to the rescue, this sweet, black-and-brown boy is a real hunk, loving and affectionate with those he knows but unsure of those he doesn't. (He came to us after having been a stray for a couple of months.) Carter reacted to an adoption counselor who approached his kennel for the first time by jumping, barking and looking quite intimidating.  Our adoption counselor (who has been around the block more than once herself) asked Carter quietly, “What’s your problem, big boy?”  Carter immediately started wagging his tail and licking her hand through the side of his kennel.  He just needs some time to come out of his shell and adjust to new places, new people and new faces, which needs to be managed by his owner and respected by strangers.  He will walk happily and pleasantly right by your side if he is comfortable and familiar with you.  He is easy-going and walks well alongside other dogs, as long as they are relaxed and gentle and match his style.  Carter does fine in a play group of peers; he tolerates high-energy dogs but not in-your-face types.  He greets other dogs but mostly stays to himself.  We think that the very best side of this handsome guy will manifest as soon as he acclimates to life in a secure forever home.
